Charlie the Romanian rescue dog

Two Weeks In The Life Of Charlie The Romanian Rescue Dog

I thought it would be interesting to document a few days in the life of one of my canine clients, starting from the time I was first contacted by his human companion, who has kindly given permission for me to do so.

Charlie is a Romanian rescue dog and is between eight and a half and nine years old.

He has occasionally been taken to a chiropractor who had said in the past that his whole spine was ‘out’. He also has a permanent tremor in his left shoulder. He does have a habit of being disobedient and running off occasionally whilst on a walk and can be gone for several hours.

I was initially contacted on the Saturday evening:

Saturday

“I’m a bit worried about Charlie – old age is creeping in, he is slowing down a lot, his joints are hurting and he’s been extra subdued since he ran away about a week ago for five and a half hours.

He had a blast chasing rabbits in open countryside, and thankfully came back to the carpark when he was done, but he hasn’t really got his energy back since then. His left hip doesn’t look right when he goes up the stairs. I would love to book a session with you for you to work on him please.”

We arranged for him to have an online session a few days later, on the following Tuesday afternoon.

Sunday

“Charlie’s energy has dropped considerably so I’m taking him to the vet tomorrow. I will be back in touch soon.”

Monday

“The vet has ruled out an infection and thinks it could be joint pain. I have been been given pain-killers for Charlie but would prefer to manage it holistically, if possible, instead of with drugs. We would very much like to have the session with you as soon as possible, please.”

We had the session, as planned, at 2.00pm on the Tuesday afternoon.

Charlie had not been given any painkillers as yet, as it was hoped this would not be necessary. The session only lasted thirty minutes as we both were able to recognise that Charlie had released huge amounts of tension and was done for now.

From my perspective, during the session, I followed Charlie’s lead, allowing him to guide my attention. Not only was there release along the whole of the left side of his neck, but I sensed the area around Charlie’s L5 disc rebalancing itself, along with his left sacroiliac joint.

We arranged another short session to reinforce the work we had done in this first session.

Tuesday

“He is already happier. Thank you so much!”

Wednesday

“He is much happier and not only has his bounce back, but also his mojo back for playing first thing in the morning. It is amazing how the pain had suppressed the whole expression of his being. He has just bounced back, amazingly so.

Thank you so much, I will keep an eye on him and see how he is in the next few days and keep you posted.”

Thursday

“I know I’ve given you two lots of feedback already but today, the dog walker texted me saying “Charlie was a different dog today. Running, jumping, rolling. I passed on your details to her as she has a dog on her walks that needs some help.”

We arranged another thirty minute session for the following week.

Wednesday

Again, I allowed Charlie to lead the session. Initially he drew my attention to the top of his neck where he experienced a release from what felt like his OA joint. This was followed by another release from a little further down, around the C3 area. Then he showed me his lower lumber area which I was able to sense rebalancing itself as we gave it attention.

As the areas we had addressed the previous week appeared to have been resolved. I asked Charlie if there was anywhere else in his body that required attention. He immediately showed me his left shoulder area. He has had a tremor here and also down his left fore leg. This is likely due to an unknown injury, sustained before his rescue and subsequent adoption by his human companion, at the age of eighteen months.

I was able to feel energy releasing from around Charlie’s left shoulder joint and also from the area of the T3 and T4 nerves on the left side of his thoracic vertebrae. I also included his adrenals in the connection. In my experience, I have found there can often be an energetic imprint remaining, between the adrenals and site of injury, where shock and pain have been endured. When the shock is released, the issue most often resolves.

Friday

“Charlie was more tired than usual after the session but is now coming out of it. He has been in good spirits and very relaxed. His behaviour is very easy going and he is listening to me much more and not being difficult, which I think is a good sign of him not being in any discomfort. He does look lighter of spirit and that appears to have been reinforced.

The tremors are still there, which could imply some permanent nerve damage from before his rescue, but his shoulder is comfortable now which is the main thing. He has also been enjoying rolling in the grass today. Thank you so much.”

I was so pleased to have been able to help Charlie. If you would like to discuss how I may be able to help you, or your animal companion, then please get in touch. Email sarah@ytenehealing.co.uk or call me on 07747 111040.

The language around trauma

I have recently noticed that there appears to be confusion around the language used by some professions when describing their relationship to working with trauma. I wanted to bring some clarity and understanding to this from my own perspective, as
