Somatic Coaching FAQ’s

Somatic Coaching integrates the body’s physical sensations, movements, emotions and behaviour patterns to foster deeper self-awareness, lasting change, emotional regulation and personal growth.

It can include techniques such as mindful movement and body scanning to unlock insights held in the body for transformative change, rather than focusing solely on mental processes. Clients learn to understand how their physical experiences (like tension or posture) connect with their thoughts and emotions, enabling them to manage stress, overcome blocks, and build resilience for future goals.

We also draw on our connection to the natural world and on sources of stability and support in our lives, nurturing and building them into an animistic framework, enabling us to fully embody the ways we move forward and the choices we make.

Somatic Therapy is a body-centred therapy that examines the connection between mind and body and uses both empathetic listening and physical therapies for holistic healing. In addition to dialogue, somatic therapy practitioners use mind-body exercises and other physical techniques to help clients release energetic imprints and patterns that negatively affect physical and emotional wellbeing.

The mind and body are intimately connected, though not necessarily in obvious ways, and thoughts, emotions, and sensations can all influence one another. When talking therapy has reached its limits, Somatic Therapy holds that the body is a largely untapped resource, and much can be learned from gestures, posture, facial expressions, eye gaze, and physical movement. This can help clients move on from unhelpful reactions based on past experience to being able to respond appropriately in the present moment.

Somatic Coaching integrates body awareness, physical sensation and intuition to help release stress, process emotions, and create lasting change through embodiment practices, nature connection and our sense of being in the world. This focus on the mind- body connection, physical sensations and embodiment can create the environment for deep, internal shifts, helping to alleviate stress, limiting beliefs, and emotional blocks.

Life coaching primarily uses mindset, goals and cognitive strategies for personal development, addressing behaviours and outcomes.

The key difference is that Somatic Coaching takes a ‘bottom-up’ approach, whereas life coaching typically takes a ‘top-down’ approach. A Somatic Coach recognises that the body holds wisdom and helps clients connect with their bodies, leading to a deeper and more holistic transformation.

Business coaching traditionally targets external goals such as strategy, leadership, and growth, focusing on skills, plans, and performance metrics.

The core difference lies in where the change originates: Somatic Coaching starts with the body’s wisdom for holistic healing, whereas business coaching often starts with the intellect, for strategic results.

Yes, definitely. In fact, I like to think my work aspires to be trauma attuned, offering clients an even greater level of support and intuition. This definition illustrates an approach to care and relationships that involves actively and sensitively responding to an individual’s emotional and physiological needs. The practitioner goes beyond simply being trauma informed by focusing on real-time responsive interactions that help an individual feel safe and seen.

People of all ages who are looking for a new sense of purpose and direction, or assistance with achieving their personal or professional goals.

Somatic Coaching can help you tune into physical sensations and better understand your emotions, thoughts, and needs. It can provide clarity and help you create momentum for change.

Somatic Coaching can help with both personal and professional issues, including improving self-confidence and addressing underlying physical discomfort that may be linked to emotional blockages.

Sessions take place online via Zoom or in my home studio in Lyndhurst, Hampshire, for an in-person appointment.

I offer three or six month Somatic Coaching programmes with 60-75 minute online sessions every two weeks. In addition, an individual 75 minute Somatic Clarity Coaching session can be arranged, either as a taster before booking a programme or as a somatic reset.

Somatic Coaching sessions can be both enlightening and educational, leading to an increase in clarity and a return to a more profound sense of psychological, emotional and physical well-being. As with other forms of coaching, we co-create a programme based upon the client’s requirements and aspirations. This may very well change or evolve over time during sessions. By using body-based techniques to help access their inner world and inherent wisdom, clients are able to connect with their bodies and release what may be holding them back.
